Waste Water Pumping Station design and delivery support for developments in Scotland

Waste Water Pumping Stations proposed as part of new developments in Scotland need to satisfy Scottish Water’s technical and submission requirements before they can progress towards vesting.

Advantage Pumping Solutions can help developers, consultants and groundworkers manage the specialist pumping-station element of this process.

Our engineers can support projects from early design and pump selection through to installation, commissioning and handover.

Understanding Scottish Water WWPS requirements

Scottish Water’s framework differs from the Section 104 sewer-adoption system used in England and Wales.

Wastewater infrastructure intended for vesting by Scottish Water is designed and constructed in accordance with Sewers for Scotland, alongside Scottish Water’s specific technical requirements.

There has also been a significant recent change.

For standard Waste Water Pumping Station submissions made from 27 July 2026, Scottish Water now requires:

• A WWPS Drawing Pack

• A WWPS Information Pack

• A WWPS Portal Information Sheet

• The required WWPS information to be submitted together through the Development Services Portal.

Scottish Water states that applications without the required information will not be audited until the missing information has been supplied.

This makes the completeness and coordination of the pumping-station design particularly important.

Specialist knowledge from design to vesting

Scottish Water’s requirements cover more than the pump duty itself.

The station needs to be developed as a future operational asset, with appropriate information, access, maintenance provision, controls and documentation.

Advantage brings more than 25 years of pumping-station experience to that process.

Scottish Water pumping station FAQs

Is the Scottish Water process the same as Section 104?

No. Section 104 applies to the adoption framework in England and Wales. Scottish Water operates its own vesting framework and technical standards, including Sewers for Scotland.

Have Scottish Water’s pumping station submission requirements recently changed?

Yes. Revised requirements for standard WWPS submissions took effect from 27 July 2026, including new drawing, information and portal documentation requirements.

Can Advantage help prepare the pumping-station information?

Yes. Our engineers can support the pumping-station design and technical documentation and coordinate the information required from the different disciplines involved.
