Project Overview

Advantage Pumping Solutions was appointed by Lovell Homes to deliver both foul and surface water adoptable pumping stations for the South Otterington development in Northallerton.

Designed to support 42 new homes, the scheme required a robust and compliant drainage solution that aligned with Yorkshire Water’s adoption criteria while integrating seamlessly into the wider site infrastructure.

Why We Won the Project

Our appointment on this project reflected our ability to:

  • Deliver adoptable pump station systems aligned to Yorkshire Water and DCG requirements
  • Provide clear, technically-led design support to streamline approvals
  • Work collaboratively with developers and consultants to ensure practical, buildable solutions

What We Delivered

From the outset, we focused on a coordinated and efficient delivery aligned to both programme and compliance requirements. The solution included:

  • Dual-system design: separate foul and surface water pumping stations
  • Carefully engineered system capacity to manage flows from the full development
  • Design aligned to adoption standards, supporting a smooth approval process
  • Selection of reliable pumping equipment to ensure long-term performance

Installation & Timeframe

Design & Approvals: 2023 – 2024 (including revisions to align with Yorkshire Water feedback)
Delivery Status: Design finalised and prepared for implementation
Outcome: System designed for efficient installation, commissioning, and future adoption

Challenges We Overcame

Adoption compliance:
We developed the system in line with Yorkshire Water’s specific requirements from the outset, reducing the risk of redesign and ensuring a smoother path to approval.

Integrated system design:
Balancing both foul and surface water systems within the same development required careful coordination to ensure performance, efficiency, and compatibility with the wider drainage network.

Design coordination:
Through close collaboration with project stakeholders, we refined the design to align with evolving site layouts and feedback, ensuring a practical and buildable solution.

Our technical team worked closely with the wider project team to guide the design process, providing clear recommendations and responsive support throughout. This collaborative approach ensured the final solution met both technical and commercial expectations while minimising risk to the programme.

The Outcome

The project delivered a fully compliant, adoptable pumping solution that supports the ongoing success of the development.

Key outcomes included:

  • Adoption-ready infrastructure aligned with Yorkshire Water standards
  • Reliable performance across both foul and surface water systems
  • Seamless integration into the wider site drainage strategy
  • Reduced risk of delays through early-stage design coordination
  • Long-term operational confidence for both developer and adopting authority
